I was obviously confused here, this is not a SkewChiGouge but the Pyramid tool. Still a nice tool and I'll make a SkewChiGouge next :-).
Decided to make one. Figured that 1/4" for what I am likely to do would probably be better than the 3/8" version. If I am wrong it will be easy enough to make another.
Being not sure I could cut HSS (W1 drill rod?), I decided to have a go at it with some CRS that I picked up at Lowe's (God knows what it actually is). Used my cutoff tool to chop off a 5" chunk of it and had at :-).
Turned the handle out of that crap dowel rod and it came out quite well I thought. Need to get some ash (seems to be popular for the purpose from what reading I have done) as it would just have to be less ugly.
Only thing I wasn't happy with was drilling the hole in the handle for the shaft, not quite sure what I need to do about that, perhaps one of those pen blank holders. It works well enough and I am not sure that having the shaft straight is actually critical beyond just good practice.
Played with it a bit and it seems to work well for all I tried other than for the cove. What I did with this tool is from about center to the left side.
I think I like it :-)!
