Shiny Things for July 12, 2006

New table for the machine tools.

Found this table on the free junk pile at the local thrift store. Mine for the price of hauling it home!

Quite sturdy and somewhat beat up, but perfectly serviceable. Lucked out and it was exactly the right size to fit perfectly in the space available!

Didn't require too much re-arranging and the kitties still have thier facilities with a little bit more privacy :-).

It is really nice to have everything pretty much within arms reach now. Pulling stuff out and putting it away as well as having to move it when Jean wanted to work was a real pain in the arse.

Stopped by the local auto parts store to get some oil for the Bronze Dragon (84 Caddy) and noticed this on the rack at a really good price. Snarfed same :-). Wish they had it in metric too, any one worth having has been $20 more.
Always in need of spacers for mounting electronic stuff and never have them. I wondered how hard it would be to make one. This gave me a chance to do something on the lathe and it turned out to be pretty easy. Got to play with my new tap and die set to boot.

This is a 3/8 x 1 inch spacer drilled and tapped for 4-40 screws. Came out only .006 under!

Micro-mill side of the table, it is a little tight.
The whole machine workarea. Much happier with this and Jean gets a chunk of her lapidary worktable back in the bargain :-).

The slots under the table are nice but hard on the knees. Considering putting 4x4"s under the legs.

The kitty box can come out if need be, but so far it hasn't been necessary. Sure makes one appreciate good litter and an aggressive maintenance schedule for it :-). Yes, the fur kids are worth the effort.

Not done with this layout yet, but it is a good start!
