Tail Stock Cam Lock Kit from LMS.

Created on: Thursday 29 March 2007

Kit arrived from LMS today and it took me about an hour to install it.

The base on the tailstock is sloped up toward the rear, perhaps I should have milled that flat, but it seems to work just fine as it is.

Adjustment of the foot was a bit touchy, but the installation instructions from LMS addressed the problem nicely.

Between the work at aligning the tailstock and this mod, the paint looks like it has been in a war zone :-).

YES, the snap ring pliers I got from HF make this so nice and easy and I didn't have to grovel in the swarf to appease the demons of lessons learned on very marginal alternate methods :-). Done way too much of that in the past. GOOD investment!

Didn't have the washers, so this is how I marked and set the hole for the cam shaft.

Pulled the clamp down to flat on the base, you can see the angle here.

Hole drilled. Used my step drill for this and it worked out well, kept it plied with cutting oil. Cast iron seems to be messy stuff, if easy to work.

Hadn't noticed the misallighment with the boss(?) on the back. Was initially concerned about it, but it seems to be OK. Probably allows the cam shaft to tilt to accommodate the tilt the clamp block sits on.

No more hassles with the 17mm wrench :-), back to the toolbox with it! Surely will not miss it :-)!
